We are the “you can sit with us” collective. Our aims are to question the existing structures in the fashion world and to find a more contemporary, more social approach to working. We’re about connecting the analysis of working conditions and processes with the creative development of a project. We want to try out alternative ways of working and communicating and find ways of interacting with each other that don’t focus on individual work and the continuous drawing of ideas from within oneself. We provide emotional support to each other and share artistic ideas.
Our way of working is experimental, and we are participating in an ongoing process.
The collective has different departments with self-chosen specialisms that partially deviate from the classical categories of the fashion industry: Activism, Form und Kommunikation (Form and Communication), Print, LAB, Tier/Mensch (Animal/Human), Wäsche+ (Underwear+). Thereby, the processing of such wide-ranging concerns, which are finally united again and reflected in the results, without losing importance, proves to be a great potential. The outcomes of each department come together during a styling workshop and result in a collection.
“You can sit with us”, is a collective of students at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, all studying fashion and communication design but in different cohorts.
The collective formed within the framework of the project “24/7”, supervised by Professor Evelyn Sitter, Katharina Eichner and Gesine Försterling. Initially consisting only of the students, the collective expanded to include the editorial team, in which students from both design programs worked with teaching faculty to produce this publication.
